UNDERGRADUATE MINOR
IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

The Biomedical Engineering minor is a 15 credit house program that is open to all engineering majors and other students that meeting the prerequisites listed below. Six credit hours (two courses), are required and the remaining credit hours are selected by the student from the collection of courses that cover diverse topics within the field of biomedical engineering. Engineering majors must complete at least 9 credit hours beyond the requirements for a B.S. in any engineering discipline for the biomedical engineering minor. Students must register with the Department of Chemical Engineering undergraduate advisor the College of Engineering are currently developing additional courses that will be added to the list of courses that can be applied to the minor, so consultation with the advisor will insure that students are informed of all offered courses.

Prerequisite Courses:
1. Biology I: BSC 2010
2. Calculus II: MAC 2282, MAC 2242
3. Physics II: PHY 2049, PHY 1049 or PHY 2054,
4. General Chemistry II: CHM 2046 or CHM 1046

Required Courses:
1. ECH 4931 Special Topics: Introduction to Biomedical Engineering - 3 credit hours
2. ECH 4751 Engineering of Biomedical Systems - 3 credit hours

The Remaining 3 courses (9 Credit Hours) must be taken from the following:
1.   ECH 4931 Special Topics: Bioseparations - 3 credit hours
2.   ECH 4931 Special Topics: Chemical/Bio Sensor &
                    Microfacrication - 3 credit hours
3.   PHY 4936 Applications of Physics to Biology and Medicine I
                    - 3 credit hours
4.   PHY 4936 Applications of Physics to Biology and Medicine
                    II - 3 credit hours
5.   BCH 3023 Introductory Biochemistry - 3 credit hours
6.   EIN 4313C Human Factors - 3 credit hours
7.   ECH 5740 Theory & Design of Biopress - 3 credit hours
8.   EIN 5245 Work Physiology/Biomehanics - 3 credit hours
9.   ECH 5745C Special Topics: Pharmaceutical Engineering &
                      Manufacturing - 3 credit hours
10. ECH 5748 Special Topics: Legal Issues in Biomedical
                    Engineering - 3 credit hours
11. ECH 5748 Special Topics: Bioengineering - 3 credit hours
12. ECH 5748 Special Topics: Biomedical Fluids - 3 credit hours
13. ECH 5748 Special Topics: Sensory Systems - 2 credit hours
14. BME 5748 Special Topics: Clinical Biomechanical Research
                    Methods - 3 credit hours

We will be adding other courses to this list, please check with the Program Administrator.

Other Requirements:
1.  A minimum of 8 semester hours of credits used to satisfy the requirements must be from USF courses.

2. Student must complete a major in another subject at USF.

3. USF coursework for a Minor must have a GPA of at least a 2.0

4. Student must be seeking an undergraduate degree from USF.

5. A minor can be applied for and received only if conjunction with applying for and receiving a B.A. except for students who have already received a B.A. from USF who may earn a Minor by taking additional undergraduate course work at the university and applying for certification.
