UNDERGRADUATE
OPPORTUNITIES
IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
In general, a variety of courses are
provided in the bioengineering area at the
4000 - 5000 level. In addition to BME
courses, courses are available in
Pharmaceutical Engineering, Product
Development, and Food Engineering (these are
offered through Chemical Engineering). These
courses are available to all engineering
students. Non-engineering students can
usually take these courses with the consent
of the instructor.
Students who anticipate advance training
in BME area strongly encouraged to take
courses in the life sciences, biochemistry,
and related fields. Also, such students
should obtain some research experience as
part of their undergraduate training. It
should be noted that the College of
Engineering strongly support the research
experiences for the undergraduates in
research laboratories.
For students who desire more training and
course work in the BME area, the college of
Engineering provides two other possibilities
for undergraduates: 1) the Minor in
Biomedical Engineering; and 2) the
Enhancement Certificate in Biomedical
Engineering. Please see the pages under
"Undergraduate Programs" for more details.
Either option should satisfy the minimum
requirements for admissions to medical
school and other health-related professional
programs; interested students should consult
with the appropriate pre-professional
advisors to insure that any admission
requirements are in fact being satisfied.
